In Dark Times

Think about the fact that people watch other people cook and eat fine food on video programs. See them go down to the boutique butcher or fishmonger, and get their exquisite cheeses in a cheese shop, and clip tender herbs from their gardens, and by all means use crème fraîche rather than sour cream because it's oh so much better. Who are they? People that have the time and money and resources to cultivate and refine their tastes. Then they have their little parties, where well-heeled guests come and remarkably just talk about how good all the food is. Why isn't this just a sick joke? Why do people inter-passively enjoy their enjoyment?
