Lots of really good things in here, getting at the different contributors to current GOP anti-science. But until we are prepared to breatk the taboo, and talk about the way in which American capitalism (and the politicians that it owns) reduces all useful human activity to commodities--to just so much abstract labor--in my opinion, we won't have arrived at the root. doctors, health policy experts, and research scientists are now just wage laborers like everybody else, human capitals/resources that need to be "managed" in the optimization of profit.
